We are currently seeking an Advanced Research Engineer on behalf of one of our clients.

The Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) Welding role is focused on the technical delivery of welding/joining projects and support the development of project related activities across the company, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors. The Welding/Joining Team have an excellent track record in delivering value to industry. With a large portfolio of industrially funded projects, the Advanced Research Engineer (ARE) Welding. Joining the role will contribute to, and lead projects for, the development of Welding solutions for companies customers.

Objectives of this role

  • Deliver high-quality technical outputs for advanced engineering and research projects, meeting customer requirements, budgets, and timelines.
  • Act as Technical Lead for smaller projects and support larger projects with independent technical delivery.
  • Advance innovative manufacturing and engineering technologies at Technology and Manufacturing Readiness Levels (TRL/MRL) 3+.
  • Support the development and deployment of new and novel technology capabilities within industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Independently deliver technical work packages for complex engineering projects.
  • Lead smaller projects as Technical Lead, ensuring quality, compliance, and delivery targets are achieved.
  • Identify, specify, and support the introduction of new manufacturing technologies.
  • Maintain awareness of project budgets, milestones, and agreed deliverables.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and contribute to presentations for stakeholders.
  • Contribute to all stages of project delivery, including:

– Concept generation and feasibility studies

– Detailed engineering design

– Compliance with relevant engineering and welding standards

– Technical support during commissioning and implementation

Skills and qualifications

  • Degree-qualified engineer or engineering technologist (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas:

– Welding and joining technologies

– Robotic and automated welding systems

– Arc welding processes

– Welding standards and their practical application

– Welding qualification procedures

– Directed Energy Deposition (DED)

– Manufacturing and process development

Preferred qualifications

  • Working towards or holding professional engineering registration.
  • Experience producing technical reports and presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Exposure to the UK manufacturing or industrial sector.
  • Experience delivering industrial research or applied engineering projects.
  • Strong interest in innovation, technology development, and advanced manufacturing.
