Lancarza is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join a high-profile industrial project in the Botlek, Rotterdam area. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the final phase of complex engineering projects, ensuring that installations, systems, and equipment are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications.

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all commissioning activities, from pre-commissioning and functional testing to cold and hot commissioning. Your expertise will ensure that systems are fully operational, compliant with technical requirements, and ready for a smooth handover to the client and operations team.

You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineering teams, construction supervisors, operators, contractors, and end clients throughout the commissioning process. Your ability to identify technical issues, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and implement practical solutions will be essential to delivering a successful project.

Objectives of this role

  • Ensure the safe and successful commissioning of industrial installations and systems.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Verify that all equipment performs according to engineering specifications and client requirements.
  • Support project teams during startup, testing, and system handover.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute commissioning activities.
  • Develop and review commissioning and testing procedures.
  • Perform functional testing, inspections, and system verification.
  • Lead and support cold and hot commissioning activities.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues during startup.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary activities between engineering, construction, operations, and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policies, quality standards, and project requirements.
  • Prepare commissioning reports, punch lists, and handover documentation.
  • Support startup activities and final system acceptance.

Skills and qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer within industrial environments.
  • Experience in petrochemical, chemical, energy, oil & gas, or process industries.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning, startup, and handover processes.
  • Experience with Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I), Mechanical, or Process Systems.
  • Valid VCA VOL certificate or equivalent HSE certification.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in Duth and English.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working on large-scale EPC or brownfield/greenfield projects.
  • Knowledge of international commissioning standards and best practices.
  • Experience with permit-to-work systems and Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Flexibility to work on-site during critical commissioning and startup phases.
